“Polychronic” was a new term I learned from these articles. According to this link,
http://www.worldwidewords.org/turnsofphrase/tp-pol2.htm
“If you’re a polychronic personality, you work happily with many things happening at one time, in a non-linear and emotional way that lets you change your plans at a moment’s notice without distress and without worrying about deadlines.”
I don’t think I could work that way … unless, perhaps, the rest of our culture worked that way.
“What do you earn?” is not a question I would have been prepared for in small talk with an Asian. I might thank him for his interest and explain that the question could be considered intrusive in our culture.
The page listing non-western, intelligent behaviour traits did not tie them to any particular culture, but they did read like proverbial wisdom.
Thanks for your comments Neil, I don’t think many of us have polychronic personalities!
